Parking Lot Deterioration and Hidden Dangers

Bill Smith - Friday, February 06, 2015

If only there was such a thing as a perfect parking lot. There isn’t, but there are numerous things you can do in order to make your lot safe and less of a headache for your customers.

If it was possible to make a flat, smooth parking lot, things would be easier, but one can dream. Even great parking lots can have nuances that can create problems (fixable problems).

For example:

• A half inch difference in surface height can cause trips and twisted ankles

• Engine oils and antifreeze can cause deterioration, grating, and slips

The consequences and risks of having such issues can be pretty great for a business owner.

And while the following is good for increasing safety in the short-term, a long-term plan should include repairs as soon as possible (and we have a hot mix that we can use in the winter to help in the immediate):

• Clean all spills

• Clean all oil spots

• Mark oily spots and icy/wet spots

• Clear snow and ice immediately (call us about snow removal)

In addition to good housekeeping, keeping good, working lighting on your lot will help keep accidents from happening.

Call us to set up a consultation for either winter work or to schedule an overhaul for this spring.
